Second Annual GGG Poker Run Announced! The Golden Gate Guards are pleased to announce their second annual Poker Run to be held on Sunday, August 28, 2005. The Poker Run is a small 2 to 3 hour ride through San Francisco and the Peninsula where we make four stops. At each stop (and during registration), riders receive a playing card in a sealed envelope. Midway through the tour, the Guards will offer complimentary sodas and water. At the end of the tour, riders will open their sealed envelopes -- that's when the best and worst poker hands will be determined! There is no money involved -- no betting, no registration or entry fees. It's just a fun way to get like-minded bikers (and non-bikers) out-and-about for an afternoon! The event is not limitted to motorcycles -- anyone participating in cars will be in the last 'group' to go through the course. We will be starting the Poker Run at 12:30 PM (registration opens at 11:30 AM) at Rocco's restaurant (1131 Folsom St, SF) where there will be an optional brunch. The event will end at the San Francisco Eagle Tavern just in time for the GGG's monthly Beverage Benefit supporting the Stop AIDS Project. Where money is involved:

Morro Bay Brother Club Run with LOBOC M/CThe Golden Gate Guards from the North and the LOBOC M/C from the South held a joint Brother Club Run to scenic Morro Bay in Central California. Guests included various clubs from all over California. A highlight of the event was the dinner cruise on Morro Bay. Here are some pictures. Mr. Cherry Blossom 2005 Announced! On Sunday, April 24, 2005 the Golden Gate Guards revived an old tradition: The Crowning of Mr Cherry Blossom at a luncheon following the Cherry Blossom Parade. This annual event, started by Jason Fontaine in 1990, was last held in 1999 with the crowning of the 10th Mr Cherry Blossom, Lou Grosso. Jason said, "Starting in 2000, there were just too many activities and conflicts with events by other organizations. Since the Cherry Blossom Parade concludes the two week Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown, it was impossible to change the date, so we just decided to drop it. Six years later, the calendar has opened up and Lou was very excited to restart the tradition!" Standing on the corner of Polk and Turk Streets with many members of the GGG and friends, Lou could be seen doing his best to give the "royal wave" to all the passing dignitaries, floats, bands others. "I never quite got the wave down," he smiled. "But I sure am happy that we were able to get a good group together for the revival of this great tradition." After the parade, Lou led 16 people to the International Noodle House where he presided over the luncheon. Lou officially welcomed everyone and proclaimed that, from henceforth, Jason would be known as "the Master of ALL Cherry Blossoms"! (His previous title was "Mother of All Cherry Blossoms".) After thanking Lou for his six year reign and the new title, Jason gave a little of the history of the event and mentioned the previous title holders. After the luncheon, Lou proclaimed Ted Hirscher to be Mr Cherry Blossom 2005! 2005 Golden Dildeaux Awards Announced!!The winners of the 2005 Golden Dildeaux Awards were announced on Saturday, April 16, 2005. A great audience was present at the Eagle Tavern to celebrate the final appearance of Donna Sachet and Lenny Broberg as the Masters of Ceremony! Warren Williams, President of the Golden Gate Guards said, "It has been our pleasure to have the support of San Francisco's most loved pair of MC's for the spirit and energy that they have brought to the Golden Dildeaux Awards. Donna and Lenny will be missed very much!" This year's team concept was a big hit with the Hayes Valley/Gulch Team who walked away with 11 awards! This team, made up of Aunt Charlie's Lounge, Mr. Lee Ona's Cocktail Lounge and Marlena's Bar, each won a Dildeaux Award for their level of participation! Warren said, "The bars from the Hayes Valley/Gulch Team were key in helping raise $1,500 which goes directly to the AIDS Emergency Fund! We are so proud of all the Teams for helping to take care of each other!" Warren continues, "The Golden Gate Guards hope that the momentum that was started with the teams will continue into the 2006 GDAs!" The Team Awards also included an award to the location that brought in the most money from the ballot sales. This "sizable" prize went to The Edge Bar of the Castro Team. "Thanks to Gary, Virginia and the Gang over at the Edge Bar for their continued support each and every year with the GDA's!" Warren beamed. A special award was presented to Andy Rose for 9 years of producing the Golden Dildeaux awards. The complete list of all this year's winners can be found in the adult portion of this web site. Who will win a Golden Dildeaux in 2006? Start sharpening those claws now and keep track... Before you know it, it will be time to vote again!! 2005 Officers Announced at the GGG's 18th Anniversary Party! On Saturday, Nov. 20, 2005 at the Most Holy Redeemer Community Room in the Castro, the Golden Gate Guards celebrated their 18th Anniversary. Harlow and his crew treated the more than 150 guests to a terrific spread while Joe and Jeff served the liquid refreshments with enthusiastic abandon. Philip Evans -- past Emperor of San Francisco -- sang his heart out to the delight of everyone! Photos from GGG events from past years were projected on a large screen throughout the festivities. Warren Williams, 2004 President of the Guards, hosted the evening. President Warren explained that in 2004 the Golden Gate Guards donated more than $3850 to such organizations as the
